It specifically stipulates the dimensional, material, and performance requirements of these components, as well as the test procedures used to verify their suitability for different applications. Whether it is common household lighting fixtures or lighting equipment used in special places such as industrial and commercial settings, as long as lamp caps and lampholders are involved, this standard needs to be followed. From ordinary screw-type lamp caps and bayonet-type lamp caps to various special-specification lamp caps and their corresponding lampholders, all are within the scope of its specifications.
3. The Vital Role of Gauges
Gauges play a central role in IEC 60061-3 and are key tools for ensuring that lamp caps and lampholders meet the requirements of the standard. By using various types of interchangeability dimension gauges for lamp caps and lampholders, their dimensions and shapes can be checked to ensure compliance with the standard. For example, thread go/no-go gauges are used to inspect the dimensions of threaded lamp caps or lampholders, ensuring that the thread specifications are correct and that they can be screwed together smoothly, avoiding situations where the lamp cap cannot be installed firmly or at all due to thread mismatch. Different types of gauges correspond to different inspection items, comprehensively guaranteeing the quality of lamp caps and lampholders.
4. Common Types of Gauges and Their Uses
4.1 Go Gauge
Take the E14 lamp cap go gauge (drawing number 7006 – 27F – 1) as an example. It is used to detect the thread size of the lamp cap and the minimum length of the lamp cap. When the lamp cap is screwed into the go gauge, if it can be screwed in smoothly, it indicates that the lamp cap meets the thread size requirements of the lamp cap; after screwing it all the way in, if it can touch a specific surface, it means that the length of the lamp cap meets the minimum size requirement. This ensures that the lamp cap can be correctly matched with the lampholder during installation to achieve electrical connection.
4.2 No-Go Gauge
For example, the E14 lamp cap no-go gauge (drawing number 7006 – 28B – 1) is used to prevent the lamp cap from being too large in size. If the lamp cap cannot pass through the no-go gauge, it indicates that the size of the lamp cap is within the allowable maximum value range, avoiding problems such as inability to install normally or affecting safety due to an oversized lamp cap.
4.3 Anti-accidental Contact Gauge
Like the E14 lamp cap anti-accidental contact gauge (drawing number 7006-55-1), it is mainly used to detect the risk of accidental contact of the lamp cap. Apply no more than the specified external force to the lamp cap to make it pass through the gauge. If it can pass through smoothly, it means that the outer diameter of the lamp cap meets the requirements, effectively preventing users from accidentally contacting the live parts during operation and ensuring personal safety.
4.4 Contact Performance Gauge
For example, the E14 lamp cap contact performance gauge (drawing number 7006-54-1) is used to detect the length and contact performance of the lamp cap. When the lamp cap is placed in the gauge, if it can enter smoothly, it indicates that the size of the lamp cap is good; when the lamp cap is pushed into the gauge, if a specific surface can touch or exceed another specific surface, it means that the contact performance is good, ensuring good electrical contact between the lamp cap and the lampholder, reducing resistance, and ensuring the normal operation of the lamp.
4.5 Solder Height Gauge
For instance, the E14 lamp cap solder height gauge (drawing number 7006-27G-1) is used to detect whether the height of the soldered part of the lamp cap meets the standard, ensuring soldering quality and the stability of electrical connection.
5. Structure and Technical Parameters
The structure of the gauges and related waveforms (such as thread waveforms) are calculated and optimized by computer and then processed by computerized machine tools, achieving a high degree of precision and aesthetic appeal. They are made of high-hardness steel materials with strong anti-rust capabilities to ensure that the accuracy of the gauges is not affected during long-term use. Different types and specifications of gauges have their own specific technical parameters, which are detailed in the standard. From the dimensional tolerances of the gauges to the surface roughness, strict requirements are imposed to ensure that the gauges can accurately detect various indicators of lamp caps and lampholders.

Only products that meet the standard can enter the market, which effectively guarantees the safety of consumers during use and avoids electrical accidents caused by mismatched or poor-quality lamp caps and lampholders.
