IPX1 to IPX4 Comprehensive Waterproof Test Chamber

1.Introduction

IPX1-4 comprehensive waterproof test chamber combines the oscillating tube and drip box in one system, it can meet the test requirement of IEC60529 regarding the IP levels IPX1, IPX2, IPX3 and IPX4. Waterproof test simulates the condition of dripping water, splashing water and spraying water, which is mainly applied to electronic products, luminaire, electric components, motor and house-holding appliance. The waterproof test can help to judge the products’ performance, and provide the basis for design, improve and inspect.

The comprehensive test chamber consists by oscillating tubes (R600), drip board (L600mm*W600mm), turntable, water tank, control units (touch screen+PLC), flowmeter and etc.. The oscillating tube, drip board, turntable and walls are made of SUS304 stainless steel. The test chamber is built-in a water tank, the water can be recycled. 4 casters are placed on the bottom of the chamber to make it can be moved easily.

 

Test condition for IPX3 and IPX4 testing

For IPX3 test, the oscillating tube has spray holes over an arc of 60° either side of the centre point (the other holes are blocked). And the total flow rate is adjusted as standard requirement, and measured with a flowmeter. Place the sample at the center point of the semicircle, the tube is caused to oscillate through an angle of 120°, 60° on either side of the vertical. The time for one complete oscillation (2*120°) being about 4s. The test duration being 5min.

For IPX4 test, the oscillating tube has spray holes over the whole 180’’ of the semicircle. And the total flow rate is adjusted according to the standard requirement, and measured with a flowmeter. The tube is caused to oscillate through an angle of almost 360°, 180° on either side of the vertical. And time for one complete oscillation (2*360°) being about 12s. The duration of the test is 10min.

 
Test condition for IPX1 an IPX2 Testing

For IPX1 and IPX2 tests, the aperture of nozzle is Φ0.4mm, distant of drip nozzle is 20mm. The IPX1 test requests the dripping water (vertically falling drops) shall have no harmful effect. Test duration: 10 minutes, equivalent to 1 mm / minute. The IPX2 test requests vertically dripping water shall have no harmful effect when the enclosure is tilted at an angle up to 15° from its normal position. Test duration: 10 minutes (2.5min in each of 4 fixed positions of tilt), water equivalent to 3 mm/minute.
