When it comes to testing the moisture resistance of household appliances and similar electrical appliances, precision and compliance aren’t optional—they’re non-negotiable. That’s where the splash test apparatus step-in.
1. What is splash apparatus?
The splash test apparatus is an device used to simulate the posture of water splashing from the ground, to the base of electrical products when raindrops fall on the ground. It is applied to test the moisture resistance performance of the bottom of household electrical appliances.
2. What appliances should be tested?
As per standard IEC60335-2-64, the commercial electric kitchen machines with a waterproof rating of IPX4 or lower, should perform the splash test for 5 min. Such as commercial electric cooking ranges, oven, hob and hob elements.
As per standard IC60335-2-75, the professional type electric dispensing appliance and vending machines classified IPX3 or lower, and intended to be placed on a kitchen floor, should subject to the splash test.
3. How to perform the splash test?
The splash test apparatus consists by a Ø2mm nozzle, a bowl and a pressure gauge. The nozzle is tilted at a 600 relative to the bowl, and the distance between the nozzle and the bottom of the bowl is 50 mm. The tested appliance is place in the normal position of use, for appliance normally used on the floor, the bowl is placed on the floor and is moved around in such a way as to splash the appliance from all directions. During the test, the water pressure is so regulated that water splashed up 150mm/100mm above the bottom of the bowl. The test duration is 5min.
