The IEC 60335-2-9 is a product standard, issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), specifically addressing the safety requirements for household and similar electrical appliances, especially the safety standards for grills, toaster and portable cooking appliances. This standard is an extended part of the IEC 60335-1 general safety standard for household electrical appliances.
Scope of Application
It is applicable to portable electric appliances for household and similar purposes with a rated voltage not exceeding 250V and having cooking functions such as baking, roasting, and barbecuing. These include indoor barbecues, bread makers, candy floss appliance, contact grills, cookers, food dehydrators, hot plates, portable ovens, meat roasters, radiant grills, toasters, waffle iron, etc. However, it does not include fixed ovens and grills, warming trays, frying pans and deep fryers, microwave ovens, outdoor barbecues, appliances using charcoal or similar combustible fuels, appliances used for commercial catering, and appliances used in special environments (such as corrosive or explosive environments).
Main Content and Requirements
IEC60335-2-9 elaborately specifies the requirements for the electrical performance, mechanical performance, thermal performance, and user safety of portable cooking appliances, including:
1) Electrical Safety Requirements: Ensuring the safe operation of the equipment under normal use and possible fault conditions.
2) Temperature Control and Overheat Protection: Preventing the equipment from overheating and safeguarding user safety.
3) Mechanical Strength and Durability: Ensuring the stability and durability of the equipment during long-term use.
4) User Protection and Operational Convenience: Improving the user experience and meeting consumers’ demands for efficient, healthy, and safe kitchen equipment.
